Tamiflu neće biti efikasan protiv ptičje gripe

Prema studiji objavljenoj u New England Journal of Medicine, Tamiflu možda neće biti efikasan protiv ptičje gripe kao što se mislilo. Izvještaj otkriva da postoje znaci razvoja otpornosti na Tamiflu.
U Vijatnamu, četvero od osam zaraženih ljudi je umrlo od ptičje gripe uprkos što su primali lijek Tamiflu. Kod dvoje od umrlih infekcija se već bila razvila kad je Tamiflu uključen kao lijek. Međutim, virus H5N1 je razvio otpornost na Tamiflu kod druga dva smrtna slučaja.
Glasnogovornik firme Roche, proizvođača lijeka Tamiflu, je izjavio da je možda neophodno povećati dozu Tamiflu-a i možda produžiti trajanje terapije. On je takođe dodao da doktori trebaju tražiti rješenje u liječenju pacijenata sa kombinovanim antivirusnim lijekovima.
Glasnogovornik Svjetske zdravstvene organizacije je izjavio da se otpornost virusa dešava i kod ostalih lijekova i da to nije ništa neobično. On je još izjavio da je Tamiflu još uvijek najbolji lijek za ljude protiv ptičje gripe.
Ako se lijek ne daje u odgovarajućoj dozi ili vremenski nedovoljno, rizik od razvoja otpornosti na lijek je veći.
